Gaming - LCD or Plasma ? - View Post

my university paper was technical comparison between lcd and plasma.

the real answer is that it really depends on your needs.

plasma is a little better for sport applications(fast pace movies)

LCD is better for brighter room,,has much longer life span and uses 1/3 electricity as plasma and has a crisper image.

for gaming:
definitely LCD,,,,plasma will have burn in effects,,meaning that if you live the pause menu for an hour to 2 hours on,, there is a high chance that the picture will burn into the screen forever.

overall I think LCD is better and 2 top LCD manufacturers are Sony and samsung. just make sure that the screen is not shiny (most of samsung tv screens are shiny meaning that they lose picture quality if the room is even a little bright)

My recommendation is Sony 40XBR4.

The XBR4 is an awesome set and it does have a matte screen. The 650/750 series of Samsung's are equal or better in picture quality and are cheaper, they do have high gloss screens though. The 630 series should be shipping about now, which is basically the same thing with a matte screen, though they will be a little pricier since they just came out.

I honestly wanted an XBR4, but the price tag was a little intimidating. After a few weeks of research, I chose a 46" 650 series from Sammy. The high gloss screen really does make the picture pop and the reflection doesn't affect me at all in my settings. If you have a really bright room, like windows with lots of sunlight, a matte one will probably suit you better.

You really can't go wrong with the 2008 higher level models from Sony or Samsung right now, they are just both really impressive.
