They didn't half-ass the graphics, they did everything the system was capable of for the size of the game. Pokemon isn't so simple as people like ckmlb would like you to believe. It's one of the most strategically complex RPGs ever made, if not the most when it comes to the online metagame. Plot wise? Yeah, it's cheesey and simple.
