Actually it's more like 28 Days Later, since these aren't mystical undead zombies that come back from the dead and hunger for brains...they're humans infected by a rage virus that turns them basically into zombies, but only with the strengths and weaknesses of human beings.

This is why the survivors travel at night mostly...the infected can't see well in the dark.

 

Just a means to an end.  Creeping the shit out of people.  And I couldn't agree more with their choice.
