Mario you shoot stuff, Zelda you shoot stuff, MK, R&C... almost every popular game requires you to move a character around, and shoot stuff.
For most people, the perspective considered to mimic reality the best, if 1st, or 3rd person. As time goes on, I think most games will start to use this.
That does not mean every game will be a FPS like we think of today. Fallout 3, Oblivian, and Fable 2 are examples of this taking shape. They will all be in 1st or 3rd person, but none of them are "shooters". |

I am not saying none exists, I am just saying "shooters" have been the dominate style of game from the beginning of gaming. The fact that technology now allows for the presentation to move to 1st or 3rd person is all that has changed.
Games like LBP will still get made, and will still be popular, but the trend for games to move the "window into the game" to first person or over the shoulder will continue.
