If you live in the US, it should be $15 becuase that's what I paid.
It wasn't worth it for the first few months after the PS3 came out becuase it was pretty much a use once and that's it item, you couldn't transfer saves back onto to your PS1/2 memory cards. However, I bought the adapter once Sony resolved that so that you could transfer saves both ways.
I also bought a PS2 to USB adapter for $15 as well because I didn't want to shell out $50 for a sixaxis (I figured I'd wait till Sony settled their dispute with Immursion). It was helpful if somebody wanted to play some Resistance co-op or Warhawk multiplayer.
