That's yet to be determined. Wii series games tend to be long term pack-ins for more desirable products, like a console and an extra remote. It's yet to be seen whether a Wii branded game can sell 10-15 million on it's own accord. I would say the Touch Generation series of games would be the biggest for Nintendo, as it includes both Brain Age and Nintendogs.
As far as Microsoft's reasoning, it could be true, as E3 is not what it used to be. It could be a lie to save face. It could be that they knew they'ed have E3 in the bag with the FF XIII announcement and decided to save the Halo gun for another large media event. I'm leaning more towards the third myself.
