There have been periods where one party was clearly the better choice (Reagan years) and where the opposite party was needed (present day). Not that I need to convince anyone, Obama is almost certain to win the candidacy, unless the Republicans try one of those smear campaigns which they seem to enjoy so much.

Hmm... I agree with you. I peg Obama's chances of winning at 90%
-the more optomistic canditate wins 75% of the time, and that is Obama. Republicans had a "bad" (unpopular) president, so the next republican either has to compelty disosiate from the former, or have very different policies. McCain is easily comparable to Bush.
-Both candidates have indeed flip flopped, which means they are making up stuff to get votes- gas tax holiday? come on!
That said, I think Obama has a good chance of turning this recession into a depression if he implements to many social programs to fast and pulls out of Iraq and creates a power vacum for Iran to take over the middle east.
