The only ARPGs I've really played are Level 5's games (aside from the little time I spent with Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights long ago), and the only things I don't like about them are:

1. The complete lack of an interesting story.

2. The limited interactivity with the environment around me. What's the point of being an Action RPG if I can do nothing but walk around until an enemy appears, at which time (and only at this time) I can use the 1-2 weapons I have equipped until they're dead. This is more a knock on Rogue Galaxy, but Dark Cloud suffered heavily from this as well.

Basically, I want my ARPGs to have a great story, but more importantly to be more action/adventure-ish like Zelda, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus.

You need to play the Kingdom Hearts series and it's no wonder you think that the stories in ARPGs aren't interesting, you were playing Level 5 games, great game designers but poor writers. Hopefully, WKC improves on this

Wha? Rogue Galaxy had a far better story than Kingdom Hearts.

OT: I love the intense combat with extensive control over character growth. I don't like bad cameras.

Many people have to disagree with you including me.  RG's story had a ton of plot holes such as the fact that there was little to no evidence of a intergalatic war going to in the story like you were told.  The characters were one-demensional and underdeveloped and the only main characters that were important to the main story are Jaster and Kisala.  The story was a carbon copy of other JRPGs as well as Star Wars.  It also didn't help that the dialouge(atleast in the English version) was quite awkward and made the otherwise solid English voice cast feel like a complete waste.  Oh, and the main story quite frankly, was pretty shallow.  I never played RG but those are the general complants I have heard about RG's story.  Kingdom Hearts story didn't have those kind of problems.  It was a little hard to follow at times but KH(and CM and KH 2) still had a way better story than RG.
