Ok since images aren't working I'm going to take a different aproach and look at the technical specifications of each in detail. Instead of comparing the DS with the PS since I'm not too familar with the PS' hardware. I will compare to the N64, what most people beleive is the more poweful of the three 5th generation consoles. Lets look at the advantages of the N64 and the Advantages of the DS.
Both have around the same amount of ram, discounting the ADD-On for the N64.
The N64 has more processing power for 3D graphics, but the ds makes up for this by having a more efficient processor, allowing them to be able to utilize around the same amount.
The DS is capable of 120,000 polygons per second with all hardware effects @ 60 fps, while the N64 is capable of 100,000 polygons with all effects @ 60 fps. Most N64 and PS games lose alot of effects when at 60fps while the ds doesn't lose many.
The ds is capable of 262,144 colors, while the N64 is capable of 32,000 colors on-screen.
Now the area where the DS fails it isn't capable of BI- or Tri- linear filtering, but the N64 is. So now it has to use a worse type of filtering that causes Aliasing as you said. Both are capable of Hardware Fog though. Though this may sound like something big, it isn't too important since as I said earlier it is far less noticable on a smaller screen, and you seem to be making it out as something big.
The ds is capable of about the same lighting as the N64, which is better than the PS' and it is capable of the same amount of textures as the n64 because of their ram amount, which is also better than the PS'. The ds really shines though with things like particle effects, and now that we have more advance texture compression you could see that the there could be more textures than both the N64 or PS.
Now lets compare the "Weaknesses" of the ds with the PS. The PS like the DS is also NOT capable of Bi- or Tri- linear filtering. So your point about the DS' textures actually looking worse than the PS' because of this is moot, because they are the same. The PS has the same weaknesses as the DS while not having the same advantages. As for your RE comparison. Both were early games, and I doubt they show the power of the DS or the PS. There are many explanations why the ds version looks worse. Bad port, scaling, etc. So the DS has its advantages over both consoles, and its disadvantages of the N64. So your point about the ds having worse graphics than the PS isn't a strong one imo.
