I know it's simply anecdotal, but out of all the systems I have owned I have never had one break except my PS2 (even my PSone still runs). I replaced my PS2 twice (meaning I bought 3 of them). There has to have been some planned obsolescence involved in that. Systems just don't break that easily.
Other than that, my original NES still works, as does my Atari 2600. so does my SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSone, N64, Gameboy, GBC, GBA, Gamecube, Xbox, DS, PSP, and Wii.
