With the Elite the average price of a 360 goes up thats how they raised the price.

...that is the dumbest line of reasoning I've heard in a while.

They didn't raise any prices, they added a new model which was more expensive than the previous two. The average of the three has fuck-all to do with it.

This whole thread, along with Peter Moore are pretty f'ing stupid. I think that's the point of what mitsuhide is saying. If I can now get a 60GB PS3 for $500, when it used to be $600, that's a price cut. Sorry MS bozo's.

If you can say, hey, but the console is still only available at $500 and $600, then what others are saying, is with the elite, the 360 is now either $300, $400, or $480 instead of just $300 or $400. So by this threads and Moore's line of reasoning, with is totally absurd, MS raised the price of the 360 "console" when the elite came out.

When people here are referring to the price of the console, they do not mean the average cost over all SKUs.  They mean the entry cost of the console.  For the Xbox 360 line, that amount is still $300.  Thus, no price hike.  Likewise, with the PlayStation 3, the entry cost is still $500.  Thus, no price cut.  In the first example, Microsoft simply added a new model, at a greater cost.  In the second, Sony changed up what was bought at each price.  To put this into perspective, an identical move on Nintendo's part would be to release a "Wii Plus" or something, maybe with some extra HD space, DVD functionality, etc.  If they discontinue the current Wii and only sell the Wii Plus, at $249, no price cut has taken place.  It is simply a swapped model.
