With the Elite the average price of a 360 goes up thats how they raised the price.

...that is the dumbest line of reasoning I've heard in a while.

They didn't raise any prices, they added a new model which was more expensive than the previous two. The average of the three has fuck-all to do with it.

This whole thread, along with Peter Moore are pretty f'ing stupid. I think that's the point of what mitsuhide is saying. If I can now get a 60GB PS3 for $500, when it used to be $600, that's a price cut. Sorry MS bozo's.

If you can say, hey, but the console is still only available at $500 and $600, then what others are saying, is with the elite, the 360 is now either $300, $400, or $480 instead of just $300 or $400. So by this threads and Moore's line of reasoning, with is totally absurd, MS raised the price of the 360 "console" when the elite came out.

Responding to your first paragraph, yes for the 60GB model the price is lower, so in that regard it is a price cut.  Add in the fact that they are not going to ship/make any more and you have what is called a clearance sale.  A clearance sale is just a price cut with the goal of getting rid of stock.  But if you want to say "The PS3 got a price cut." then when the 60GB models are all gone you need to also say "The PS3 got a price increase!".

Responding to your second paragraph, your post betrays you and tells everyone in this thread that you have failed to read the thread and just posted as a knee-jerk reaction.  Or if you did read it, then you have low reading comprehension.  Nobody is claiming that introducing a higher priced model somehow "negates" a price cut.  What people have said is that the lowest price point that the PS3 has sold at has not changed.
