The battery life problems are exaggerated, and there are a lot of ways to save on battery. You can adjust the brightness of the screen (3 settings, very easy to change), you can turn the sound off, or you can turn the screen off completely if you are using it for music (very easy to do as well, just hold the brightness button down).
I always get at least 6 hours off the battery. I have a slim.
