I really want the PS3 to succeed, I own one. I just don't think it will be anywhere near as popular as the Wii. Not unless 7-core processors and blu-ray players become dirt cheap to produce in the next 12 months, and they can bring the PS3 to $399 by holiday '07 and then $299 by holiday '08.

It's just not obtainable to mass market, median income two income families make less than 50k a year. That's $960/week before taxes. $2800 after taxes minus rent, food, gas, electricity, car payment, insurance. Consumer products more valuable than video games, you have cable, cell phones, tuition, retirement. $532.50 for a PS3 in Orlando with tax + a game at $74.55, not to mention controllers, another game (if there were any to buy).

Amazon isn't a good indicator of the whole market either. Walmarts and Gamestops are the real indicators. Those are where American gamers shop, for all we know the Amazon sales could be to international buyers who don't want to pay $1000 for a console in their own terretory.

I hope I am wrong because I am beginning to regret my "investment".

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
