Hey, those numbers are totally bullocks. Not your fault though. http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php You have to divide up the Fire Foxes to make a fair comparison.
So Opera 9.2 is in fact at the same size as FF 3.0
Hey, Opera is the slowest? You have no proof of this. Well, I'll prove you wrong. Source: Source:http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#
Edit: it came out a bit unreadable. Well, the Operas beat everything on Cold start. On Warm start, Opera 6.03 wins, then IE 6, then Netscape 4, then the rest of the Operas.
Edit 2: it came out double unreadable, so I took out the graphs.

There is one thing you didn't take into consideration with that comparison:
"Hardware; 800 MHz Intel Pentium 3, 256 MB RAM"
Opera performs better in this scenario because it has less demanding system requirements. On a decent computer, Firefox will perform better under most conditions. Anyone that has a computer bought in the last couple of years and requires flexibility would be better off using Firefox.
Also, comparing Opera 9.2 to Firefox 3 is obviously an unfair comparison. Opera's market penetration is clearly much lower than that of Firefox.
