Well I'm not sure where I stand on this one.
As far as an argument for segregated schools, I'll try to actually make one.
I think (in America) the issue of segregated schools in certain areas could have a positive effect, or an intended positive effect in the light that the nation has seen a lot of imigration (both legal and the not-so legal type). This idea may be useful not so much as a social thing but as an answer to problems concerning the quality of education all are recieving. 95% of school districts probably aren't effected by this, but for the few that are I think they could find it favorable for a couple reasons.
1. ESL training for teachers is in-sufficient. 2. No child left behind, threatens (which would be inevitable) to leave everychild behind. When you have school policy in place to set kids with poor englisch scores in the same classroom settings as others, and the schools relative scores are hindered by this (after all Americas all about graphs and charts, follow the buck, certainly not education) it creates massive problems in a lot of areas for the standards of Learning curicula. My brother is a school teacher and this is an increasing issue with the school board. JEB Stuart was a middle school in our area that ranked number 1 in the entire nation a few years ago. Now there are rumors that it will be shut down because it is below standard. There is a much newer dynamic of kids going to that school in the meantime. Our schools, under the new standards are hard pressed to come up with a new double-think process to try to combat this one.
If this is about recent rumors of our school systems in various places trying this than these could bee feesable arguments. However a return to the days of old would probably be more catastrofic (bad) than when integration was first instituted.
Again I would most likely be against it because my son, who is about to be born, will be mixed [white (Deutsch-Kelt origin) and Africa (Sierra Leonne)] so it would be quite difficult for the school system to place him, and many others like him, in an "apropriate" school. Besides, I don't see it happening.
