Cooler is always better for semi-conductive electronics. Assuming you don't have a factory defective unit, keep it well ventilated and you shouldn't have overheating issues. That means both the console and the PSU (power brick). Keep it on a hard open surface (not in an enclosed entertainment center), dust every once and awhile.
I don't recommend aftermarket console coolers like the Nyko that are USB powered since they do place an additional power load on the PSU.
If you're paranoid, you can always run an ordinary fan by your console to keep cool air circulating. Won't hurt.
