Region doesn't matter. But challenge does, or there is absolutely no point to having a battle system and stats in these games. An RPG you can coast through is a child's toy. Battles need to be challenging and highly strategic, death being a familiar friend by the time you're 25% through a game.

The best RPGs going right now are the Shin Megami Tensei games. You'll will get raped if you do not think and plan.

WRPGs are becoming dumber by the year in terms of what they require from the player to advance and overall complexity. Hopefully Dragon Age will truly be the successor to the Infinity Engine games.


But historically I prefer WRPGs because they in the past have offered more challenge, customization, interactivity, cause/effect than the vast number of JRPGs
