I've heard ramblings that Epic isn't entirely pleased with the "closed" nature of Live, which is why UT3 is being released first on the PS3 and PC, and allowing mods to pass from the PC to the PS3. But I don't know how plausible it would be to see a game based in the Gears of War universe on the PS3. Microsoft published Gears of War, so they pretty much have say about where it goes.

 

Well, I think it could be similar to Monolith making F.E.A.R. Their publisher, Vivendi, owns the rights to the F.E.A.R name and the only way they can make another game in the 'F.E.A.R' universe is to name it something else. I don't remember their exact situation of why they'd have to do that, maybe it was to change publishers or something. That we have seen by their contest they've (or still are, I have no idea) hosted for people to send them ideas for a title.

Microsoft is the publisher of the Gears of War series, or just the first two I think.
