Earlier this year I had to make a project about rootkits. I know pretty much about the topic, so it really surprises me what they are doing now. As it has already been mentioned, they ASKED the company then called First4Internet to make DRM software for them, WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS. This means, they were allowed to use anything they wanted as long as it was a good DRM software. And they decided to implement a rootkit which didn't let the user know he had DRM software installed on his computer. Sony HAD to know this, hence the famous statement "Most people, I think, don't even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?".
And now they are suing the company which made the rootkit, which doesn't even exist, since it was bought by another. They have lost their minds. :|
I consider this the first of all the steps (exploding batteries, PS3 price, arrogance) and bad PR that led the company to the position where it is now.
