I personally have the complete opposite expectations ...

The PSP is not really selling a lot of software because it sells heavily to are using it as a media player, or to people who are early adopter types who desire to own the latest and greatest gadgets; the iPhone (and iPod touch) are far better media players and have far more geek-cred.

That's pretty much the viewpoint of any sane person. While the iPhone will never touch the PSP in game offerings, it's a vastly superior multimedia device. Not only that but it's far smaller and since everyone carries a phone anyway, it makes way more sense to package your multimedia stuff in with the iPhone than PSP. Who wants to carry that brick around all day?

Sony went after a market with the PSP where they were seriously outclassed from the get-go by Apple. Now, with the 3G iPhone, it's far worse than it was in 2004 with the iPod Video. Sony needs to focus on games and games alone. Luckily, they've had some damned fine offerings for the PSP over the past year. They need to keep it up.
