I think it's just the games that are fun. Mario Kart Wii is phenomenal, Smash Brothers, of course, is fantastic, Galaxy is very, very fun and there are quite a few good third party games.
Owning both games, I'd say that Metroid Prime 3 is a better shooter than Halo 3 hands down. It gets a respectable frame rate (60fps) unlikely Halo 3, it doesn't aim for you, the enemies are far more difficult and it's overall a lot more fun.
