I think all of us (or at least the most of us) know that Nintendo was the company that put console gaming in the position that it is now, all of us know that the 1st Playstation was a develop from the SNES-CD (which BTW was a Nintendo idea since the Famicom Disk System, and the early developments started later when the CDROM/XA were almost a reality), and we all know when and why Sega got out of the hardware market...

But guess what, the reason Sega got out was not because of Sony, was because their bad business decisions, they had good creativity, but they made horrible calls with many things between the CD and Saturn years, by the time the awesome Dreamcast launched Sega's reputation was on the floor and Sony's was on the roof, they didn't had a chance, add to that the Nintendo hardcore audience that was expecting the "Dolphin" (Gamecube) and Microsoft announcing their new product, the Xbox, all of them having DVDs as their media, it was a perfect storm...

Now, you only blame Sony for being "thefts" but any corporation would do the same in that position...

BTW, if a company is not interested in gaming one day, it doesn't mean that they will not be interested never, hell Nintendo didn't start as a videogame business (they got interested when they saw the US consoles like the Magnavox Odyssey, which they distributed in Japan), you have to know how Microsoft got interested in videogames, and later in consoles, but Bill Gates didn't even think about videogames when he was betting his blood for Windows to succeed...  Nokia, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, NOKIA... So there you go...

Returning to the subject, if Sony has to choose a mascot, it will be clear in the future, for now i don't think they have the decision, they have to build a great 1st party rep. and then choose the most popular one that is not cars...
