"GT has more mass market appeal than Mario, Zelda or Halo. "

LMAO AAAHAHHAHAHAH. Thanks for that!

Why do so many people not realize GT is a massive franchise?

That's not the point. tombi just said it was MORE massive than those other franchises. Zelda? Yes. Halo? Arguably. Mario? Don't kid yourself.

*snip*

Keep in mind that SM64 (for instance) sold more than GT1, 2, or 4, and on less than a third the userbase. SML, on a similar userbase, blows away the whole GT series. NSMB blows away GT3 on less than 2/3 the userbase. Expect SMG to do at least as well as GT1, 2, and 3 once the userbase is similar. SMB2 (WW combined total) matches GT2 and 4 on half the userbase, and SMB3 blows them away and beats GT3.

I know Mario is a bigger franchise overall, but GT is bigger than Zelda and Halo.  Even with Mario for the past two generations GT games have sold on par or significantly more than console mario games.  Granted PS had a huge userbase advantage.

My comment wasn't about what tombi said, but the response of "LMAO AAAHAHHAHAHAH" to the statement.  I have heard people on this forum say they haven't even heard of GT.  I'd expect that sort of response comparing something like God of War compared to those franchises.

Also saying 15 million blows away 14.87 million seems to be a stretch, especially when you then bring up userbase despite GT3 launching on an 11.3 million (generous considering it was even lower when it launched in Japan), versus NSMB launching on an 18.6 million userbase.
