Two different things.

First off, Final Fantasy and Dragon quest were all on the (S)NES which had short dev time.

So we're allowing excuses of NES and SNES games into this discussion?

I went ahead and added Mega Man (12 games in 7 years), Resident Evil to the list.

And if you want me to keep adding PS1 era games, I can do that too:

Twisted Metal: 6 Games in 7 years (#1-4, Black, Small Brawl)

And if you look, Resistance is having it's first sequel in just 2 years. Shorter timespan than Halo did. How many more franchises do you want me to throw at you?

Is resistance going to have an RTS?  Is it going to have a third person shooter?  Is it going to have a Whatever it is that Peter Jackson is doing too.

Megaman.  You're proving my point.  What happened to the megaman franchise?  Dead.

Twisted Metal.   And now the game is taking a much needed break, it was getting burnt out.

NES and SNES games had shorter dev times, and were far less ambitious.  IS Super Mario Bros the same graphical prowess, detailed, and polished as Halo 3?

I don't have many more to throw at you, only because Microsoft hasn't been around long enough, and doesn't have neough internally develop titles, and didn't have many successful titles that could get sequels on the original XBOX.  That's the good part of having an unsuccessful initial console.  Can't saturate the market with many games.
