When asked about the viability of future exclusives, Hashimoto was somewhat elusive. "[Releasing on a] single platform doesn't necessarily limit the market," he said. "There's software that's specific to certain hardware, and uses those capabilities to its max. Nintendo does that, and there's Gears of War for Microsoft. These titles do very well." |
I agree with what he has to say, and I think this is the future. The problem is the company hurt most by this trend, is MS. Sony has learned from Nintendo that the best way to generate long lasting IP's for your platform, is to make them. They are starting that now with LBP, R&C, Resistance, God of War, Jak and Dexter, Uncharted, and many others (not sure about GT, is that 1st party?)
The problem is MS has very few 1st party games. If this man is correct, that guarantees things like MGS5 going mulit-plat, and Gears 3 going that way as well. (why I thought the above was funny, that he used a 3rd party game for MS).
MS needs to either start buying companies like EA, or worry about the coming years.
