Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bioware really needs to play more action games before making Mass Effect 3

You know, I always hated the Doom series because it was not turn based. Always tried to find magical armors like HP +50, fire resitance +3 but heck, could never find any. You can't even put runes on your shotgun. What sort of game is that?

Most important thing is that ME2 is GOTY candidate...in Jan!

It's a pretty heavy shooter game but you also have to realize that concessions have to be made for the RPG crowd. The auto-aim and generally, relaxed feel of parts of the game were surely created to appease those who don't drink 14 gallons of Mountain Dew a day and can press an LT-A-B button combo while strafing in .000002 seconds.

The game isn't perfect, I'll admit that. But I can see why they eased off on the extreme shooter elements earlier in the game. Not only does it let less experienced players get into the game (some of us have to remember just how many video games each of us have played over the years) but then it allows the action to get REALLY intense near the end because they haven't used up that gameplay trick by throwing it at the player 140 times before that point.

Remember that some tricks are best used for the climax of the game and if the developer uses it too much before that point, it will become stale to the player and the intensity of the game's ending could be lost.

Now that I beat the game I can agree with what you said here. The game ups the intensity and urgency in the last hour or two of gameplay. Once that comes together, the game is quite an amazing experience on all levels. Its so good infact that Im goign to play mass effect 1 soon, even though I already tried playing it and didnt like it.

Yep. Isn't the last hour of the game fantastic? It has the player in near-panic mode and transforms a great game into a legendary one.

It makes me wonder what they hell they have planned to top it in three.

?????

Confused at te OP. If MAss Effect was like any of the games you mention it would destroy the combat. IMO. The combat was a perfect tactical shooter mechanic, with the emphasis on thought. Not twitching.

I think its all the decision making options that makes the last hour so intense. I always wondered if the deligation of team members I chose is right for the situation. I had 2 of my team members die near the end. I wonder if there is a way to save them all...

But yeah, whatever they do in part 3, I'll be playing it the day it comes out. They can tweak the action parts a little...as long as they keep the same balance they did in part 2.

Did't you feel sorry for the bugs at the end when you blow up the complex? I mean, they were just under reaper control. For all we know, they could be the nicest giant bugs in the world. :)

Hahah, yes. They really got the shaft at the end of the game when Mr. Controlly McControllerson just fucking bailed. What a dick move.

You can save everyone but my team was decimated the first time through. I'll save them all in a later playthrough. The decision-making was intense. You tried to pick the best people for the job but, just like real life, you found yourself second-guessing your choices a lot of the time.

I didn't find it very tactical at all. Sure, you can fiddle with conclusive shot...and team members powers. But why would you bother when you can put the fire bullets add-on and plow enemies while under cover.

But I see why the combat is like it is for the first half of the game. Game is wonderful at showing character growth. This is both when it comes to story and action. Powering up, and fighting tougher enemies near the end makes the game more intense...along with making decisions which may affect the games outcome.

I started on Insanity. I thought it was fairly hard.
