In the latest Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast from IGN, there's a bit of discussion about friend codes. We hear a bit of a rumor that friend codes on the Wii might actually disappear sometime in the future, with Nintendo opting for just the system code as a means of online protection. This isn't the first time we've heard this rumor, but it sure would be nice if it would come true!

(Assuming it's true) Finally!

damn straight it would be cool if it was true

Nintendo getting a grasp at the 21st century? *gasp*

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

If were talking about future games, it'd be nice, although I'm not sure it's possible. If it's about patching old games to do away with game-specific codes, then it's almost certainly not going to happen unfortunately.

So by not following the PC model for online multiplayer, they are stuck in the 20th century?

IGN? Can't be true, then.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

It would be better if they just did it on user names rather than just using numbers, and also make it user friendly to connect to your friends I am sick of showing casuals how to connect to their friends using the Wii.

it's the future of handheld

Why wouldn't it be? There are already Wii games that never touch your friend code, after all.
