Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Anyone believe or hope Microsoft will leave the videogame business?

I guess you hated all the money hatting Sony did last gen kingpin that prevented the people who purchased Xbox's and Gamecube's playing a load of AAA 3rd party titles.

The innovation Live brought wasn't a natural progression of anything else out there it was a huge innovation brought about by a very forward thinking software company, it's highly unlikely we would have seen anything close to it for at least another generation if Microsoft hadn't entered the fray last gen. I'm still not convinced any company would have come close to what Live brought to the table even then imo.

The problem with your favourite companies being unable to sell games is nothing to do with Microsoft. Without knowing who your favourite companies are it is hard to comment too much further other than to say the vast majority of studios that have died off in recent years has been their own fault for not correctly managing their budgets and released crap game after crap game. The exception would be Ensemble who should never have been closed and I still to this day do not understand the decision.

If he did consider you a fanboy he couldn't call you one or he would have been banned, it's against the forum rules.

On the Rare front I'd keep an eye on the anouncements at E3, theres going to be some big news I believe.

Finally, you're entitled to an opinion on any issue, how you express your opinion though is what will define the responses you get. To me your post was a hateful rant with little precise reasoning originally, hence why you've had the replies you had. I read your post and intially just decided you weren't worth correcting, thats not really the attitude you want readers of your posts to have if you want any meaningful debate on a forum.

i wasn't going to respond to any of this because i was simply stating how i felt but...*uck it. i'll bite....

first off i'll just say i may as well just say i'm a raging fanboy who's blinded by my love for one company that i can only see what i want to see. apparently if you have a strong opinion against one company, you are a fanboy and thats all there is to it.

i'll start with the first comment. i don't see how you can say my body grew but my mental state didn't. of course i've matured, otherwise i would think nintendo and super mario was the best thing ever and thats all that should be on the market because thats how i felt when i was 8. not sure what your point was there.

you completely ignored what i said in the second statement. i'm glad they built a very good online service. i really am. however, do you really think if it wasn't for them that online wouldn't be what it is today? its not like its any thing new. they brought it to the mainstream, good for them. i feel(and i know i have to be careful when i say this because its obviously my fanboyism making me say this) that it would have happend anyways. microsoft or not.

yes i do want to blame microsoft. you have no proof that it wasn't them, just like i have no proof that it was them. i just know they have deep pockets and they would do anything to avoid making their system look inferior. fair enough?

fanboyism and being threatend. hmm... first i guess its my blind fanboyism that keeps me away from my full time job, my girlfriend, my kids, my family that makes me stay up at night and think about all the ways that microsoft *ucks me over all the time. threatend? i don't understand that. i simply don't have to buy their system. you just have to lok at the trend buddy. all of the sudden its top priority to make all games look the same across both platforms. in most cases, the ps3 port looks worse. former ps3 exclusives have been delayed. i can't help but to wonder why that is. maybe its just the way things are. i have a hard time believing that.

fair enough. psn seems like they are trying to catch up to live. what else should they do? make an online service that uses friends codes that make it frustrating for users to play? 360 has the best online service right now. they are the ones to beat. i'll admit that they have their similarities but thats not sonys bread and butter. they have other things that they build their brand on. my point was that ms saw what the ps2 did and they are trying to do the same thing. thats not progress to me.

we agreed :)

you can't brag about how they had the most powerful system last gen and in the same breath diss the ps3 this gen. sony had major 3rd party support but all that changed when the 360 hit the market and when sony decided to charge way too much for their console. so now that 360 has major 3rd party support guess what? we are seeing more of the same. what used to be some of my favorite companies can't even sell their games anymore. i'm not seeing the progression that i would normally expect when a new system arrives on the market. is it all microsofts fault? i don't know but what i do know is that they aren't helping.

thats why microsoft is doing so well as a new contender. well thats all perception. if you like what they are doing, good for you. i personally don't. i've lived through several console battles and i've always felt like its a win win for consumers. this gen i don't. money talks. when you have a company thats willing to shell out whatever it is you need just for market share while its competitors don't have the same practices, it changes things.

again, i can't stress enough, this is just how I FEEL. if things are good for gaming, i'm all for it. i just happen to not like this company.

Ladies and gentlemen! I present to you...the most fanboyish post EVER!!

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Xbox live:mywiferocks

I am so sick of hearing MS should drop out, why would ANYONE want another company to drop out.  Ebven if you are a WII or PS3 fanboy sony keeps the prices down.  Its a competetive priced console.

Next I hear they buy theie exclusives, there is some truth to that but that is there business strategy no one complains Mario is only on the WII or KZ2 was only on the PS3.  MS startegy is instead os spending there money on first party studios they buy exclusives to third party games.  So what its a strategy.

Say what you want about MS they did a good job this round and I will look at the next xbox, as well as what anyone esle has to offer.

In conclusion MS has sunk too much money into the xbox brad to ditch it.  They are finally making money so they willbe in the next round

No one should leave ... Competition is Good , without Microsoft there was no InFamous or Killzone ... without Sony there was no Forza MotorSport or Gears of War .

couldn't have said it better. With out competition we would probably still be in the 64 bit era. So in the end comsumers get the benefits. If sony was the only videogame manufacturer do you think the PS3 would be 299? Its because of microsoft and nintendo that they cut the price.

First of all, the 360 hasn't done anywhere near as well this generation as is being suggested in this thread.

The 360 is in a distant, unprofitable second place with an insignificant lead over the 3rd place console. Oh yeah, that's exactly where it was last generation. It sells moderately well in North America, okay in Europe, and basically nothing in Japan. The only system that it's managed to outsell all generation is the PS3, which makes the 360 the second-worst selling system of the generation, a distant fourth behind the PSP. To be honest, the only reason it even has a lead over the PS3 is because it had a year headstart and because Sony fucked up so badly, and if the PS3 has poor sales, then it's really not a good idea to use it as a standard to measure the success of another system, including the 360. Hell, there were about 5.3 million 360's sold when the PS3 launched, so from that standpoint, the 360 has only sold about 200 000 more systems in the same time period.

If you want to examine this further, look at software. The best-selling games of the generation are on the DS and the Wii. If you make a list starting with the best-selling game, 360 titles don't start to appear until about 17th or 18th on the list. For all of the 3rd party games that have been sold on the 360, it's still more profitable for devs to support the DS and the Wii.

Simply put, the 360 appeals only to core and hardcore gamers. It simply doesn't have mass appeal. You can argue for Xbox Live all you want, but most gamers out there don't really care that much about online play. Only 50% of Xbox 360 owners even have a gold account.

In regards to the topic, MS will release another system, but they'll probably be done after that. The only reason Microsoft even ventured into the market with the Xbox is because they saw the PlayStation as a threat to their OS monopoly. Now that that threat is over, the market has rejected Sony's(and Microsoft's) convergence plans, and given the fact that MS still hasn't even achieved mass appeal or consistent profitability(even when aided by Sony's colossal mistakes), there really wouldn't be much more reason for them to keep making systems.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

microsoft will never leave the gaming industry. They are one of the biggest companies and if the Natal takes off as planed it is going to a juggernaunt.

it pisses me off the way people think that these "elitest casual" asshole only call one console home...... der are wankers like that on all 3 systems and if u honestly think that they are only on the 360 then you are one of the most ignorant morons i have ever stumbled across

No console competes with the PSP and the DS.

The DS competes with the PSP and nothing else. The PSP competes with the DS and nothing else.

When all is said and done the 360 will end up selling 60-70 million consoles and will be a very profitable initiative to MS.  The Wii has been nothing but an annomaly and you will likely never see another console do what the Wii has done. Look at NPD for December. 3.8 million. That is more than the PS2 ever did in one month by over 1 million.

The 5.3 million lead the 360 has right now has locked down 3rd party support and more than likely lead status on 90% of 3rd party titles the remainder of this generation. Why? because most 3rd party software will end up selling better on the 360. Even if the PS3 does catch the 360 on the hardware side it will never make up the different on the software side.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Well, luckly for nintendo, the Wii (and the DS) are doing well. Otherwise, the Wii would have been Nintendo's last console.. SEGA already got slaughtered by PlayStation, and Nintendo was victim number 2. But, Nintendo got smart, and went after a different audience, and it saved them...

-_- Oh well... Not saying that I hate Nintendo, or anything like that, I just don't like their systems. Would have been nice seeing mario on PS4, or the next new xbox system. As for microsoft... Sure, the XBOX did get owned by the PS2, which kicked the crap out of three major systems at the same time (Dreamcast, Game Cube, and XBOX) and pretty much killed all three of them.

They aren't in production anymore, at least, right?

Anyway, as much as I like SEGA and Sony systems, I'd have to say that Sony alone, or any company for that matter is never a good thing... A single company has no reason to be innovative, or do anything new.. They have no one to stay ahead of.... You can say it's "copying" all you want, but, it's simply companies following what works... They look at each other's tactics, and does what they see is working to stay ahead.. And, Sony did it a bit too much, made a massive juggernaut known as the PS3, yet... no one can afford it.. Without the competition around, Sony never would have made something like the PS3 as quickly as they did.

Competition drives the industry, stop acting like you want to see Nintendo, push Sony and Microsoft out of the business... You wont like the outcome, trust me. And, not only that, both Microsoft and Sony are in more than just the video game industry, Nintendo could never "kill" Microsoft, or Sony, but either of those two could kill Nintendo since that's all it's into... And without video games, Nintendo is almost nothing without.

So, no, I don't want to see Microsoft leave... Unless it meant SEGA coming back, and in that case, Microsoft, hurry up and get out. I just want them to be "innovative" and give Sony a reason to "stay ahead"....
