This is my first post. I really do enjoy reading the forums in all its forms. It is quite entertaining.
Am I considered a casual gamer?
Background:
I currently have a XBox 360, having traded my XBox. Also have a PS2. The last console that I had was the SNES before I got the XBox (for free). The PS2 was purchased Christmas 2006. The X360 was purchased Spring 2007.
So I am "new" to console gaming again.
Games Played on XBox: NHL 2004, NBA 2K6
Games Played on X360: Call of Duty 2 (Current); Finished Medal of Honor: Airborne. Have Viva Pinata and Kameo - never played, probably won't play.
XBLA purchased games: Catan, Astropop (bought for someone else, but don't really play), Heavy Weapon (haven't played in a long time)
Games on PS2: Singstar Rocks, Singstar 80s, Karaoker Revelution Presents American Idol (Gift), Karaoke Revolution Party, Raiden III.
Singing games, played during parties only. Raiden III played a few times because I really liked those old arcade games.
I got these games because I've downloaded the many demos on XBL. These were the 2 games I enjoyed the most. I've played Demos such as Rainbow 6, GRAW, Fear, Just Cause, etc. - but none of them seemed to stand out, based on my personal preferences. I've tried to play all the other demos as well, but after 1 minute in, I usually don't continue because those other games do not appeal to me at all. There are a few more I haven't played, but so far COD2 is keeping me happy now.
I think I consider myself a casual gamer because I don't have a lot of time to play. However, most people consider FPS's as "hardcore" games.
Question for people: What is the definition of "Trolling"?
PS3 Opinion: Not considering purchasing it - due to time, cost and "maybe" game selection. I haven't played any PS3 games - but so far no game seems to be something that is a "must buy". Because I take into account having to spend $400 to buy the system + games. Though a lot of people say that games such as Ratchet are good, they don't appeal to me.
Wii Opinion: I have played Wii Sports, Wii Play, Very Little Metroid Prime. I didn't enjoy it that much. There is no reason for me to get this console as well. I don't know if I would enjoy Mario games - (since I actually never even finished the original Super Mario Bros. - only going so far as level 8-3). Also, games like Zelda do not appeal to me - though I admit I have never played it.
If I do get this console, it would be more like the PS2 - where it was bought more for the "social" aspect of it.
I can afford all consoles, though I think I can be quite cheap on games (or maybe not). I don't really play PC games. The last game I played was Civ 4. The last game before that was Civ 3. :)
I like the current games I play because I can stop playing in 30 minutes or an hour - because of kids and family. I don't think I have time to play for 2 to 3 hours continuously - though I have played Civ for hours at a time.
If I am a casual gamer, then how come "casual games" and consoles don't appeal?
I don't think I am a hardcore gamer, as I don't really like a lot of games.
How about your own detailed gaming history? Debate and Discuss. I would definitely be interested in reading your comments.
Thanks for reading.
