Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony short-shipped 120 GB models this holiday season

I noticed on some of my recent trips to Wal Mart and Best Buy that there were tons of 250Gb models but few 120GB's or none. The same is currently shown on Amazon where the 120 is sold out but the 250 is in stock.

It's pretty obvious to me Sony planned for the 250 to be a major player this season, and it's 349 price tag surely cushioned a lot of the financial blow of the 299 Slim on them. Somy was not interested in selling too many 120's right now.

There's not a whole lot of point to this topic, but it seems obvious to me and I haven't seen many people mentioning it...So I'm bringing it to people's attention.

I didn't expect 250 to be anything but a poor selling footnote. It's now clear Sony had other plans.

I suspect the 250 gd is the version that's profitable.

I think this is possible leaning towards probable.

i think its smart on sony's part, since a person that was planning to buy a PS3 would think, 50 dollars more....why not? i get double the capacity of the 299 one....but they might also think, i'll just get an xbox elite which is at 299 also....its a double edged sword, but it keeps demand high for the 299 model i suppose....

I don't think they intentionally short-stocked 120GB, if that's what you're getting it. They need all the sales and marketshare they can get; they're not going to jeopordize that intentionally.

I disagree. The 20gb model was a flop. You only haved to pay $100 more for the much superior 60gb. $500 to $600 is only 20%, if you are going to spend money in the last technology avaible in market, buying a PS3 in the launch, the 20gb version in useless.

why did people buy the 60gb over the 20gb though ? the only difference is that the wifi is absent from the 20gb, am i right ?
