Forums - Sales Discussion - Notes from the Toy Catalogs

The two big toy retailers in the US – Wal-Mart and Toys-R-US – have put out their toy sales catalogs for the Holiday season. Both have Wiis on the cover. The Toys R Us catalog has video games at the back. Nintendo gets the first two pages. There are 32 Wii games listed and 28 DS games . Everyone else is on the next two pages. There are 12 games each for the Xbox 360, PSP, PS2, and PS3 (in that order). The catalog features only games scheduled to be in-store by 10/31 (thus no GH3, SMG, Rock Band, etc.). Count by manufacturer: Nintendo 60, Sony 36, and Microsoft 12. The Wal-Mart catalog is even more interesting. Video games are in the middle of the catalog. There are four systems – Wii (7 games) and DS (5 games including one exclusive title) on one page, Xbox 360 (6 games) and PS2 (5 games) on the other. There is no PSP or PS3. The Wii console is also on the back cover. And the ad must have been done well in advance. While includes the Arcade 360 system, it still does not have a final price for Rock Band (360) and lists SSMM (Wii). Mike from Morgantown

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I guess they put on the cover what they can sell most of or do companies pay for this kind of publicity, because if it was PS3 on the cover I know I'd be saying Sony paid for that? :P

But whatever the reason it's nice for us Nintendo fans to see our product of choice centre stage, rather than searching past the half dozen PS2 pages to find our half page of Nintendo products!!

while not a catalog post here- i have noticed that the best buy by me just redid their video game section.

the wii section is about 5 feet longer than it was before the redo.

as for the game catalogs, they put in what they think will sell the best...and the wii has the sales

i'd love to see scans of that. sounds impressive for wii. guess ps3 is too "niche" for those big retailers.

That is very interesting, back in the Game Cube days I used to always hope for decent Nintendo coverage, but never really got it.
Also worthy of noting that here in Australia almost every competition that features a prize being a video game console, has been the Wii, a big turn around from when it used to always be the PS2 and sometimes the occasional 360.

I put this post in the wrong place!

This is interesting because I've been seeing Walmart commercials where a kid uses a Walmart PS3 ad to let his mom know that he wants one.
