Forums - Sales Discussion - RE:DSC 3rd week barely beats Extraction's 10th in America's

That i think is the problem. They're trying to create these "premium" Light-gun shooters, and that idea doesn't seem to be going over quite as well. Arcadeyness is needed.

Exactly. They also have to be well made and relatively suitable for kids, which is I think why HotD:O didn't do so well.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

What to you people have against light gun games? ITs a fun way to blow off some steam and not get too worked up.

Besides, RE:DSC is 2X as long as most HD games. Game last 12-14 hours. And there ar various reasons to replay the game for...

If they can sell you Wolverene for 59.99 this game should easily sell for 49.99.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone or the secret to success will become common knowledge.

House of the Dead: Overkill's incessant swearing even made me cringe. It was WAY TOO MUCH. It is lucky it will sell 500k in a couple months.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

the fact the game had so much swearing on the wii alone is justifiable purchase. Its something you dont see every day on the Wii. Its a good game to boot so...

Amen.

I have put in at least a hundred hours into HotD:OK. Light gun games are my most replayed. Most 3rd person shooters these days are 7 hours with almost no replay value.  A light gun game will still be fun in 20 years if done right. Heck I bought a replacement Area 51 for Saturn after 10 years. Will you be playing the HD flavor of the week in that time? Doubtful.

Well said.

House of the dead 2&3 was my most played game last year. This year was great woth Overkill, dead space and Resident Evil. Loved all 3.

I really dont understand why people bitch about reail shooters. The 3 that came out this year were done well and done right. And when they are done right, they are are fun as anything else out there...

Don't think the sales problem with this game is majoritarian "on-rails" issue. It could account for some problems but I'll give you a hell of a lot better reasons:

1. Overshadowed by the much bigger release that was New Super Mario Bros Wii.
2. Probably losing a lot of potential sales to Cabela's considering this is going to be seen as a light gun kinda game.
3. Marketing compared to the first one has not been as competent and pervasive. Although hype machine was working for it during the summer, it died away in the coming months to its release and little advertising before and after its release.
4. Finally it's a spiritual sequel to a game that wasn't that highly praised and potentially bought for the RE brand rather than a solid game.

Those reasons seem to be a more logical assessment of why Darkside Chronicles is failing to hit with the Wii audience right now. You can throw in the on-rails part as well.
