This may have been done before but if it hasnt, these are the advanteges of the 2.
What they are
HDD or hard disc drive use spinning discs and a arm to read them,I think most of us know this but just in case you didnt, thats how it works
SSD or solid state drive is basically flash memoy but much larger,I could explain it but it might be better if for the people who want to know just look it up,its kinda hard for me to explain it
Advantages between the the 2
read/write speed Win SSD
SSD is signifacantly faster than a hdd, even the fastest hdd can be surpassed by a decent SSD.I would post the difference but it all depends on who makes the drive and rpm affects how fast a hdd can be
Power consomption (thought I would put this in as well) Win SSD
SSD uses less power than HDDs so this is great for portable devices, its good for portable gaming devices like the psp and ds.This also meens less heat which is another pro for the portable market.
Reliability Win SSD
I have seen a few things about the reliability of ssd and the few problems I have seen are being adressed or have been but overall its in SSDs favor, its estimated that they will last 5+ years while HDDs have had problems sometimes and only last on average 3 to 5 years. Its usually because the arm that reads the discs wears out.
How much space they can hold Win HDD
HDDs hold more than what SSDs can,im not shur if this is true anymore but when the first ipod released it had a 1 gig HDD that held I think about 2000 songs, well my 4gb flash zune holds the same amount,so that would meen every 4 gbs with a SSD would be 1 gb for a HDD,like I said it might not be exactly like that anymore and the gap could be narrowing.
Cost Win HDD
HDDs are more cost affective you could say then SSDs,a 300GB HDD will cost around 100 dollars while the cheapest 120GB SSD will cost around 300 dollars but you may be able to get them cheaper. It ia said that the price of both are falling at the same pace so HDDs will continue to dominate laptops and computers for probably the next 5 years while SSDs will dominate the portable market.
For gaming im not shur but I think for the next gen a SSD and HDD combo would be great,by then SSDs would be cheaper so I was thinking why not have a 10 or maximum 60 GB internal SSD and have a 100 GB external HDD or perhaps make it a option with a more expensive bundle.I know the arcade already has a 256 mb internal flash but thats not alot, good enough to save your games though and I know 100 gigs is not alot but if you look at it like this you could save all your games to it and perhaps have enough space to install 1 game so it should load up fast, and the 100 gig HDD could be used for every thing else. Most likely though by next gen 250 might be the smallest for a HDD and a 500 or perhaps more could be the max.
Well thats it,just thought I would point out the difference of the 2 in case you did not know and the benefits between the 2.
