Thats a pretty good list, alltough i think Legend of Zelda is a bit overrated

I would've switched Half-life 1 and 2.

Why is MGS 3 so low?

Fallout 3 above Fallout is stupid and the lack of Fallout 2 is disturbing.

And for me World of Warcraft is overrated.

108 : MGS4 ... :(

I got the issue and the list made a little more sense (but it's still pretty lame, imo) when I read their explanation. Their's already a pretty big thread on this topic, by the way.

In no particular order:

Metal Gear Solid 3
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario World
Tetris Attack
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Kart DS
Super Street Fighter 2
Soul Calibur ll
Burnout: Revenge
Portal

^I could have sworn I put Super Metroid in there!

Completely disagree with number 1, but the rest of the list is good. The first Zelda game isn't that great compared to the really good ones like 'a link to the past' or 'Ocarina of time'.

Also, Pokemon Red and blue should be much higher than 42 based on influence alone. The gameplay ranks it higher than that too.

that comment means you didn't play it at release... where the genre didn't even exist.... and when the story (whatever little of it there was) and map of the world were new...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

^^^Yeah. But this isn't a "Greatest games of THEIR time" list (even though Game Informer took that into account). It's a "Greatest games of ALL time" list. Some of those golden games have tarnished over time. If I gave half the games on that list to a 15 year old boy, he'd kill himself.

It was released 4 days after I was born, so no .

The logic of the argument of creating new concepts means games like Pole position, Wolfenstein 3D and Pacman deserve to be higher. Fair enough it was the first game to feature in-cartridge saves and one of the first adventure games. But I can think of many equally large achievements in video games such as the jump to 3D, The D-Pad, Mode 7, graphics based interface, the CD, the memory card, the joystick, etc... all of which can be attributed to certain games or groups of games which first utilised new hardware in manner which made it successful.

Don't get me wrong, it is a great game and it advanced the world of gaming further than many games could ever hope to achieve. That's one of the main aspects of the Zelda series, that it has always been a game that has pushed the boundaries of genre and hardware. But I don't think it should be number one when games like Super Mario brothers and Doom have probably pushed various concepts of gaming even further than Zelda.

It does have a wonderful lasting legacy tough, one which will be remembered for decades.
