9.0 for a game with virtually no story, it PROVES just how damn good the gameplay is on this game and its fun fun fun all the way.

Imagine if Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 actually had a full story to go alongside the already awesome gameplay, their scores would be immensly high.

Why does L4D need a story?  Some things are better without them.

Was Tetris Worlds better because they tried to put a story on that?

What about Bomberman Zero?  Was that better because they tried to add a story to it?

Would Super Mario Galaxy be better if they gave it Paper Mario's story or would that story destroy the pacing of the game?

fair point, but its not like you could muster up a story for the likes of bomberman and tetris.

i cant see any problem with Left 4 Dead having a meaningful and long story to it whilst playing offline, and just keep the story away when playing the excellent multiplayer online.

Left 4 Dead could potentially have a huge story, what caused the humans to become infected, the origins of the substance that caused it ect ect.

But L4D just doesn't need a story, it's actually scarier to not know what happened.

Anyways, the game isn't about what happened, it's about surviving and if L4D2 is anything like L4D, then that story is told from the banter between characters and the way Valve masterfully tells stories with its environments.

Long cut scenes or long pauses would only break up the pacing of the game and make it worse.

Id love to have Left 4 Dead include some sort of a story. Especially considering that these guys did Half Life and they know how to succeed in telling a compelling story.

Government conspiracy?
Secret corporation with an umbrella symbol?

Lots of cool stories they could have had.

I should be able to play this in the morning, only a few more hours.

Its refreshing that it doesn't have a heavy storyline. It would slowdown the online co-op if it did.

Shit shit shit... this or MW2 ??

God i hate fanboys, almost as much as they hate facts

“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea” Antoine de St-Exupery

A story isn't needed for L4D. It's a co-op FPS that focuses on team work. Zombie apocalypse is pretty much all the story it needs. I also don't think trying to craft a deeper storyline would add very much to it.

The biggest reason for me to get this game is to have people to play with. Alot of people I played L4D with have already moved on to L4D2...so I guess I'll just follow them hoping it's worth the price.

It should at least score an average of 90, which is what I think it is worth. Although, it will probably end up with an 89 or something on metacritic because the site is flawed like that. I will be picking this up for Christmas.

I'm half waiting for someone to come in here stating "Oh my god this shows how IGN is biased against Nintendo. Super Mario got an 8.9!"

This should be an awesome game. I already picked up MW2 so this might have to wait for Christmas. Nothing like drinking some eggnog and killing some zombies.

Number 1 was good but this looks far better. Must have game.
