Forums - Sony Discussion - President of Gearbox questions Valves lack of PS3 support.

Valve deserves this type of comment. Not developing for the PS3 is fine. Publicly trashing it makes you look like a whiny bitch and invites negative comments in return.

I dont need Valve on PS3, so it doesnt matter. (the only exception is Portal, its cool, but its on Ps3 already :P)

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

As time goes on Valve will need PS3 more than PS3 needs Valve. They've well and truly shot themselves in the foot with their self important stance.

i've never played a valve game and I really cant see why the one's that are out there are so hyped so I really don't care for the lack of ps3 support. Why is a game where you team up to shoot zombies, with no story whatsoever, so much fun? I saw my bro playing l4d and I just don't get why it's fun. Maybe I'm just ignorant. Oh well, to each, his own

Most of Valve's games have really good level design and gameplay.

From the tech-perspective, they were some of the first devs to jump on the some modern shader techniques (they are just down the road from MS, after all) with HL2, and thus, people think they have good engineers -- when in fact its MS that has the good engineers.  Valve does good game design, and some decent art.  Every Valve game follows this same path -- good gameplay, but nothing interesting or new technologically.  HL, HL2, TF, TF2, L4D, L4D2... all good games.  Only HL2 was impressive, and only because MS held their hands, IMO.

L4D is a fun game.  Its not a technologically impressive game at all.  Valve's standpoint on console hardware differences is meaningless.

Fair enough. I wasn't particularly impressed with l4d's gameplay but thats entirely opinionated

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I personally couldn't care less if Valve ports any of it's games to the PS3. They may be fun, but I will not pretend they are fun + good visuals, like so many PS3 gamess I already own. Any experience I could find in their game, I can just find in any other game as well.

What I do care about is MS and Valve's PR plan. It's goes like this, it doesn't matter if we put out games with little thought or effort, we don't focus on pushing our own stuff anyway. What we'll do is bash the competition when they have successes, and immature fanboys will join us and defend us.

BTW MS, when is that graphical powerhouse of a game coming out that you said would destroy Killzone 2 as the leader of graphics? Seriously, just STFU and worry about your own business.

valve can do what they want, its there loss

Let valve do what they want. They have the Talent and Catalog of games for us not to question them. It sucks for PS3 owners but any real gamer will have a gaming PC or a 360 to back it up.

Valve = Best developer of all time so their "arrogance" is completley valid.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

About time someone called Valve out on their bullshit attitude. If they don't wanna make a PS3 game fine, but don't go slagging the console off calling it shit when nearly every other dev has produced quality on it, or criticising EA for a bad port when they having even tried themselves.

I don't recall them calling the PS3 shit. I remember them saying its more difficult to develop for which is common knowledge. Recall what was said about Bayonetta?

The 360 and PC is the bread and butter for Valve. Also keeping their games exclusive to one console creates hype.

If bioware can produce a better looking version of DA for ps3 compare to 360 in thier first attempt on developing 4 ps3 then I don't see why Valve can't after all I thought they are "very talented" devs......either way I couldn't careless cause I buy their games on PC.

I think it's just PC....

The 360 ports just get made because they're cheap.

I look at it like this.

Say your a column writer for the New York Post.

You get paid a lot of money to work for them.

Some Newspaper in england offers you a small fee to syndicate your columns because they want to show how different life is in the US then the UK, it's like... a 20th of what you make, but all you need to do is email them a copy of your column along with your editor... and maybe ad a few U's here and there.

A newspaper in France sees the column and really likes the idea, offers you a 30th of what you make... but your expected to translate the language into french.  A Language in which you speak, but it's still a lot more trouble.

Why bother for a 30th of your salary?  Sure you'd be making more money, but it's a LOT more trouble for you.  (Keep in mind Valve is a private company, so such things matter more to them then public companies who need to maxmize all profits and grow to keep multitudes of invsetors happy.)
