Somehow the game is less of a game if its multiplatform.
If its exclusive it gets all the hype.
Heres how it is.
PS3 Fans - Hype every exclusive up and make it a 360 killer
360 Fans - Dont hype any game up, it could be the best game ever and no one would mention it.
Wii fans- They got so many games coming out they cant hype them all up.
|
Wii fans tend to hype their games to death as well. Little King Story, Conduit, Madworld, No More Heroes, Dead Space, etc. The games they hype though have terrible sales.
|
And the only game that sold badly from the bunch is Dead Space...and that wasn't hyped at all.
|
Conduit, Madworld, Little King Story and NMH all sold pretty poorly......
|
Sega and HVS said Conduit sales were good, and Sega said MadWorld sales were good. Or do you want to argue over the company's word?
We haven't heard anything about LKS, but over 100k for a game like LKS is good I'd say too.
|
To be 100% Honest. Yeah I would argue over the company's PR statements. Especially when they have said that Madworld's sales were disappointing. You can say over a 100k is good for a game but really thats hardly true. Little King's Story selling a 100k when it plays like Pikmin on a 50M+ Userbase is a flop, no if ands, or buts about it. For the hype that was going on for the Conduit and all of the TV ads they kept bombarding us with it should have sold at least 500k, And No More Heores, while it may be getting a "Sequel" the creator Suda 51 expressed extreme disappointment for the games sales but had to "retract" his statements. That sounds fishy to me.
And what about Muramasa? Wii fans have been dying for a good RPG and when they get one it flops? What about Arc Rise Fantasia? That game got better reviews that White Knight Chronicles yet WKC outsold it's LTD within it's first week?

Didn't notice this post before so I wanna respond to it now.
What's the reason that those company PRs lied? Is there any benefit? Or are they just total Wii fanboys? If they REALLY thought sales were disappointing they wouldn't have said the sales were good and they're making more Wii games. It makes no sense at all.
Little King's Story...who cares if it plays like Pikmin? Is it Pikmin? No. Was it made by Nintendo? No. Was it marketed? No. So why would you expect it to sell like Pikmin? Don't even pull the userbase thing because I can pull flops from the PS3 and 360 just as easily. Still, I really doubt 100k+ for a game like LKS is bad but Muramasa is good. Ignition already said sales were very good.
Suda never "retracted" anything. He said sales were disappointing...in Japan. US/EU the game sold great. If he really thought sales were disappointing he wouldn't have made a NMH2 (his other games haven't gotten sequels) and expressed that he'd make a NMH3 for Nintendo's next console. And he was excited about all that. Does that express disappointment? No way.
Arc Rise Fantasia sold meh because it's a Marvelous game. You can't compare Marvelous to Level 5. Plus I expect the game to sell better in US/EU like every other Marvelous game released on Wii. Also, you should know by now that reviews don't dictate how games sell. What if I said DQ Swords outsold WKC by a big margin? What's your excuse now?

Go ahead and pull out flops. The difference here is that I'll acknowledge a flop. Demon's Soul's while being critically acclaimed is a flop until further notice. I'm not trying to make excuses I call a Spade a Spade and a Circle a Circle. And yes the PR's are contradicting themselves especially when we still have devs saying things like "We'll Crack The Core base on the Wii" saying it's something akin to a puzzle. Valkyria Chronicles barely got any marketing but it made itself successful from hype and prestige. Now look at it, a sequel, an anime series and sales of over 500k on a rather pathetic Userbase number when compared to the Wii.
Suda said "only Nintendo is doing well in regard to the Wii's success because of its adoption bycasual gamers" he then retracted that statement and said point was that No More Heroes, unlike a lot of Nintendo Wii titles currently available is the kind of product which will attract a different kind of consumer to the hardware, i.e. gamers who are looking for a different genre to the products which have been successful on this platform thus far." And please don't bring that it did good in the west! argument, it sold under 300k in the states and that was after a pricecut.
Yeah that sounds like a retraction and a cover up. Lets be real here. No More Heroes wouldn't have sold much better as a PS360 game. And think what you want but just because a game is seeing a sequel doesn't mean it sold well. And in regards to Dragon Quest Swords, stop acting childish you know why I compared Arc Rise Fantasia and WKC, both new IPs and both being the first real JRPGs on their respective systems in Japan. You really wanna compare a brand new IP to the biggest JRPG IP in Japan? Does that even sound remotely sane?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.
Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
