Forums - Sony Discussion - How much is PSN worth to you?

Let's see, I get the music streaming service for free but it has advertising. fair enough. I get PS Home for free. I get game matching for free.

I have bought about 15-20 titles off the PSN. Sony make their money, I'm happy, they are happy. Why would you change that?

Why would I change that? Because I am curious, Because I wanted to know if people would actually pay to use PSN. Thats why I edited my OP and said to pretend that XBL doesn't exist, and that PSN was never free.

And yes, the Netflix argument fits perfectly with what I was arguing. I mean, is it criminal that OSX and MS both make you pay for their operating systems while you can get  Lynux free? No it is not. What people are suggesting is that Paying for live is like paying to use the internet connection you are already paying for, and that is an increadably stupid argument, just like Saying paying for Netflix is like paying for my internet connection twice...the two interlace perfectly.

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

Here's a better question for you then ironman, give a justified reason why you should pay for an online game service? and really sell it to me and make me believe its worth it.

You are taking this way out of context.

What's netfilx to do with anything? Your argument is like saying I won't pay for anything from amazon online because I already pay for my broadband connection.

Netflix is like amazon. You pay for a product\movie.

All I care about on PSN is gaming online. I will not pay a penny for that even if I had Gates's pocket money. It's just the principle of the whole thing.

It's our money and what we do with it is our choice. I have nothing against those who are willing to pay.

I don't care if PSN charged for anything else, but as long as online gaming is free I am contented. I think that is what most people care about.

As for Windows and OSX, yes, if people are willing to pay for it. If you think it's wrong you have an option, Linux. The problem is many people don't have a choice and if you want to run Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash Pro or a zillion other programs linux is a no-no.

Id pay $50 just like i would with xbox live.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Exactly. You've payed 60US for the game and now you have to pay an impost to play the bloody thing online. It's not like the games are MMO's. And speaking of MMO's, if one comes on PSN or Live and you're already paying for the Live service, well there's another potential double take. It's just wrong wrong wrong.

Heck even Blizzard did not charge for Battlenet. Now remember, the games on Live and most on PSN (besides War Hawk, R2 and a few others) use simple match making p2p connections. To charge for this is simply criminal. It's that simple.

So if Sony made me pay to play my mates I'd say screw you Sony. Off to PC land. MS tried charging PC users for their Live service. It did not last long.

If it were mandatory to pay for online play, I'd do my online gaming on PC only. Out of principle.

This.

Same here.

This. Why pay2play when you dont have to..

Netflix is a service, Broadband is a service, Google is a free service, PSN - free service, XBL - paid service.

To read between the lines, people that say they don't want to pay for something they already paid for, I reckon they mean that they prefer PSN to be a free service, they paid for the game, they paid for the console, paid for electricity, paid for the TV, paid to be connected, and they would not want to pay more for the game only to get online multiplayer mode. This is probably the casual crowd.
