Ok, I've never really played a Pokemon game so I'll ask here.

1) why soul silver over heart gold? aren't they the same only with different starting pokemon?

2) why gold/silver over platinum? What is really the difference between the versions.

A1) helped a little bit, but I really don't know who those two are, but if that is the only differnce than fine.

A2) I still don't know why I should buy gold/silver over platinum. If I buy a pokemon game I only want to have an awesome pikachu and a good game.

Ho-Oh> Lugia Platinum> Heart Gold>> Soul Silver. I put  platinum is above Heart Gold and Soul Silver is because it is already released in the West, and you should get it. I have both Heart Gold and Platinum btw.
