Forums - Gaming Discussion - Name a Gateway Drug (game) for the Video Game Market

Here's the scenario:

A person is interested in videogames, and it can be for any system from current gen alllllll the way back to Atari/C64/Gaming watches. It doesn't matter if it's an arcade machine or a flash game on a low budget website run from the garage of your aunt suzie's delinquent boyfriend.

Name the best gateway drug to the videogame world. A game that will make this person come back and want to try other games. And not a game that makes you an addict for THAT game only (here's looking at you, WoW). I'm talking about a game that makes you want to play MORE games.

I'll get us started:

What do you think? I'd like to see what you come up with...

Wii Sports

Also, the smb/dh was my first NES game as well. However, I did have an atari 2600 prior to that.

Nintendogs, Brain Training, and Wii Sports, and just about ANYTHING made by PopCap.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Pacman duhh.

I know, Boogie!....=P

On a serious note, How about any of the 2D Mario games? Or for that matter Mario 64?

To Each Man, Responsibility

Well my gateway drug was Track & Field on one of these, way before I owned a C64

I didn't get an NES till I was 4 in 1990 which by then they had the bundle set of NES + Zapper + Powerpad. So my gateway was the SMB/Duck Hunt/Track cart.

Now Playing : Links Crossbow Training(Wii), Super Mario Galaxy(Wii) FE: Path of Radiance(GC)
