It's kind of humorous house this thread has spun into discussion about how the acknowledgement of hate crimes is leading to the inevitable implosion of the Earth whereas the story itself has now backed off of the (nitiatially baffling) claims of the beating being racially motivated.

He should be allowed to kick them in the bollocks a few times a day for the term of their suspension.

Welcome to high school. Kids are mean. You might get your ass whipped for no good reason. This has been going on for decades.

no way near harsh enough, in my old school if you are in sixth form and you are in a fist fight you are expelled no questions asked (not that that stopped many people lol)

Ok then. I agree. Suspensions are fucking stupid. Schools don't know how to deal with kids so they send them away. I would get suspended all the time for ditching school. When the dean would hand me the notice I'd say "Oh man... Thanks. I don't want to go to school and you are allowing me to do that. This isnt a punishment. Its a gift. I shall enjoy my days off without being annoyed by you send cops to the house and calling my phone all day long"

There has got to be something that is an actual punishment that kids wouldnt want to do.

I'm on my Wii, so I can't quote. Anyway, it was a fight. I got into a couple at school (way back when) and I saw several happen on the school bus. It happens. My biggest concern was that the video made it seem like no action was taken. Apparently, it was. I think the 10 day (two weeks) suspension was enough. I'm positive they're banned from the bus, too. That's protocol. Now, mom and dad have to find a way to get those kids to school. The bus was free. Driving costs money. On top of that, missing 10 days of school (usually) means getting left back a grade. All in all, those two kids are screwed.
