Forums - Sales Discussion - Can the Hardware landscape really change? Is history against the PS3

It may sound like a cliche, but I think this is a turning point for the system. The 360 is going to have a hard time keeping up without being forced into another price cut of their own. Granted it will be a while before the PS3 surprasses the 360 in total sales, but I'm about 80% confident that will happen eventually. Microsoft just doesn't know how to get people that aren't super hardcore to buy their system. That was true with X-Box and it seems even more true with the 360.

The Wii is on another level. It will not be beaten. Though the blue ocean might not be quite as massive as some have predicted. It may only beat it's nearest competitor by 20 or 30 million and not 50 or 60 million.

Your whole post is super cliche.

Forced this, certainty of that, Xbox 360 is doomed... pretty much standard fare for people who paid $599 and left their brains at the checkout? Well im not sure if that last bit applies to you, but its just a rehash of debunked or otherwise often repeated statements.

I mean seriously, what's with all the 2007 deja vu?  The PS3 gained 1.2 million off of the 360's lead, only for MS to counter and take a 2.4 million swing the other way to increase their lead to 8 million.

And next year will be Natal and Sony Motion, another wildcard event.

The PS3, along with the 360 will continue to rise and sink, with the PS3's 'rises' being a little higher, therfore shrinking the gap. I still think a gap will remain though, PS3 wll be in 3rd placd for quite a while IMO, but eventually it will come 2nd.

Also, the PS Brand doesn't have what it takes to put the PS3 into second quickly, but keep in mind that this is the PS Brand at it's weakest (selling alot of consles for very high prices, well used to anyway), and it's still very powerful (stronger than Xbox brand, and Nintendo, although the 'Wii' brand is stronger.)

Except so far no PS3 "rise" has been higher than the "sink".  Every rise the PS3 got, the 360 rose higher when it countered.  So far the gap has not shrunk at all, but increased by nearly 3 million since the PS3 launched.

But the PS3 can do that considering it will most likely be sold at retail longer than the 360, and that the 360 has had a years more games, price cuts and boosts than it. With the Slim, the PS3 will be on top and the 360 on the bottom, Natal should turn that around, and then Sony will respond and it will turn again and continue. However, now that Sony has hit more affordable pricing, the 'rises' should be slightly better and the 'sinks' not as bad, making the gap decrease in the long run. The PS brand power also helps.

I think everything depends on Natal tbh, if it can skyrocket 360 sales and Sony don't come back with a really good response, the PS3 will be forever third. However if Natal dies out quickly, or doesn't perform, 2nd is almost guaranteed imo.

i can only say lets wait and see whats happening...this is gonna be really exciting...the price cut is really effective + the real big games that will coming especially the FF XIII tiles & GT5!

in my opinion a Sony console is only a Sony console if MGS,FF and GT is out and that will happen soon...im soooo happy...3rd place or not i got a Ps3 and Sony got great titles that coming out for the future and i mean REALLY GREAT GAMES so who cares...

one never knows what will happen this generation with a 100% certainty now do they.

For all we know, things could drastically turn around, but they could also remain the same, weird stuff have happened this generation, like 360 completely losing it's 1 year head start, and the wii taking off with the casuals, who could have at the time predicted these things would actually happen, but they have. So with a precedent in this generations history, one shouldn't rule out the possibility of the PS3 reaching or even exceeding wii sales, it may not be a high possibility to some, but the fact is, it remains a possibility none the less, weather this possibility turns into a reality has yet to be seen, so we should take a wait and see approach because this generation is surely bound to surprise us even further than it has.

The Xbox did sell both below the GameCube, and above the PS2 at various points in it's life for America.

People were predicting the Wii's success, they just weren't analysts or journalists.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
