Forums - Sony Discussion - Heavy Rain will be voiced in 13 languages

Heavy Rain features 13 voiced languages, subtitles in 5 more

Heavy Rain will be fully voice acted in 13 languages, with subtitles also available for all spoken languages, plus five more languages. These details were disclosed during a presentation at GamesCom this afternoon, when Quantic Dream founder David Cage introduced Pascal Langdale, the actor playing the English-speaking version of Heavy Rain's Ethan Mars (pictured right), and talked about the extensive voice work necessary for the game's many branching scenes.

Knowing a single Blu-ray disc can store language data in bulk, we were curious about how many language options would be available in the game. As it turns out, if Cage had brought out all of Mars' voices the the room would have gotten pretty tight. Check out the confirmed list of languages after the break. (We're still waiting for official confirmation on a couple -- the Quantic Dream team couldn't name them all off the top of their heads.)

Voice acted:

  • English
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • Dutch
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Mandarin
  • Russian
  • French

Note: A Polish language option is unconfirmed. (We'll update the list as needed.)

Thats a big list and very Euro-friendly (obviously coming from a French developer), this is a very positive move in my opinion as the game itself needs all the exposure it can get, it will certainly get more sales in Europe because of it.

Also: wow @ the fact that they've even included Mandarin!

Unless they add "Smurf" to the list, I will not be impressed.

Isn't that just Polish?

*adopt Mr Burns voice*

Eeeexcssssssellent.

Is Quantic Dream French? I heard that the reason why the lips seemed out of synch in the original 2006 tech demo was because it was dubbed from French to English.

Are all the characters based off their voice actors? O.o

Then can we easily have a live action Heavy Rain?

They're French, and my main concern was actually lip synch which is a personal pet peeve, thankfully I can just switch to french with subtitle now ^_^

And I have no idea who the characters are based off :X

Oooo, I don't know if I should play it with French or English >.< Dammit. I hope they at least give the option for French in all versions around the world.

Speaking French makes everything better.

This actually increased the replayability for me. I'm definitely going to have to play through at least two different languages (with English subs of course).
