They're probably intentionally sending small shipments out in order to generate press. I doubt the demand is as high as they're making it seem.

The funny thing is, even if the demand was that high, it would still pale in comparison to that of the Wii.

I thought you said you were all for the success of Sony....?

Every company does (possible) press 'tricks' like that. Sony too. That doesn't mean the guy rejects Sony's succes.

I agree it all looks very good for Sony but I agree with psrock (for once) that we must wait for the concrete results before popping the bubbly.

I hope it really pays off (not because I am a sony fanboy) for Sony because ultimately it helps the whole industry regardless of your console of choice.

The companies that brought us the PS1, NES/N64 etc., all those years ago deserves some credit and good luck for taking gaming to the masses.

So when this thread was made.

- We have no idea how many slims are in either the initial or 2nd shipment.
- You are drawing the conclusion that the limit one per customer means something.

I don't think its denial to approach this situation realistically. I'd like to see just how many people have 300 bucks to throw down on this system. Maybe I'm wrong, and frankly I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think its going to be anything nuts.

The first batch shipment depends on how many PS3 slim have been manufactured since begining of July which is allegedly when Sony started the mass production :
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10276122-1.html

For PS3 fat the launch consignment was of 4 million units, at a production rate of 200K a month : http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/75068/first-ps3-units-manufactured-this-month/

This time expect the production rate to be at least the double if not more due to several reasons :

- Sony dramatically increased the production of PS3 components in the begining of August
- Back in 2006 there was only one Taiwanese manufacturer, this time there are two
- The slim assembly is probably faster due to the reduction of components compared to 2006 PS3.
- Then they were producing two different models with different features, now there's only one.
- The assembly lines are probably running more smoothly than they were back in 2006

So my guess is that at least 2 to 2.5 million units have already been produced and partly shipped.

This part is innacurate, the number of PS3s were 500 k, 400k for the US and around 100k for Japan without any hope for the EU for like 6 months.

@ Videogirl

There is a second model, the 250GB, I just dont know if they are producing it yet. But I agree with your numbers, they have probably already produced up to 2.5 million slims already, with plans for another 3 million or more due by the end of the year.

I think Sony will have a hard time selling out in Sweden if the current PS3 slim prices are correct. It's almost as expensive as the fat...We got a $10 price drop T_T
