@MikeB, I don't see your point. Are you saying that PS3 hardware is undertracked relative to Wii hardware in Scandinavia/Sweden? And basing that on software sales and users online?

@ Taz42

It would be interesting to know why the 360 is so impopular in Spain. In Japan we can at least blame the 360's western-centric software, but what's going on in southern europe?

My guess is that Sony has a much better reputation there. Sony also probably serves Spanish speaking folk much better with their localizations. Accoding to a recent survey the Nintendo Wii and PS3 are both about 6 times as popular in Spain as compared to the XBox 360.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Usually when there's smoke there's fire, higher software sales for the PS3 as compared to Wii software sales, seems to indicate the difference between PS3 and Wii hardware sales isn't as large as VGChartz is reporting. Unless the Wii unlike elsewhere has signifanctly worse software attachment rate in Scandinavia than the PS3.

Benelux figures:

News Report 24 September 2007 (consumer sales):

100,000 PS3
2 million PS2
430,000 PSP

Comparing this to VGchartz data around the time,

23 September 2007:

Other Europe:

158,251 PS3
3,051,233 PS2
556,824 PSP

If VGchartz' data is correct,

The Benelux Playstation sales accounts for:

63.2% of PS3 sales (!)
65.6% of PS2 sales (!)
77.2% of PSP sales (!!)

in "other Europe". Doesn't this sound to be quite a bit off?

Considering they go their numbers from a sony exec.  What are the chances that is really was straight to consumer?

Other then that, the Denmark thing your referring to I believe is the one that was a survey of a total of one chain of stores that was the equivlenet of a Best Buy that actually eneded up havin advertisments for the PS3 and basically very little 360 and Wii support.

To say something about that, you have to know what's being counted. Does Wii Sports count as a sale (probably not), does PS3 Value Pack count as two sales (probably), does Wii Play with remote count as a sale (not sure).

Those things can really mess up the comparision.

@ Kasz216

That's what the article states (sold to consumers), it's not strange we're currently over 100K. There were 50K preorders for the PS3 in the Benelux and attractively priced PS3 bundles have become available.

PS3 vs 360 sales

By the way, I've noticed that two of the largest home electronics chains in Sweden (Siba and Elgiganten) have made a marketing push for the Wii. It used to be something like 70% X360, 20% PS3, 10% Wii. Now it's more like 70% Wii, 20% X360, 10% PS3.

Still interesting that both Motorstorm and Resistance (report 20/08/2007) made it into to the Swedish multiplatform top 10, while top ranking Wii titles including Mario Party 8 didn't.

I still think the hardware sales haven been much closer than reported here. I have some Swedish friends, they say the PS3 is pretty popular over there.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Not to mention, it says Sweeden has the highest number of people who have PS3s and are online... in comparison to their size.

So in other words. 8 out of 10 is the highest.

I'd also wonder why their numbers came out to about 58 Euros for a PS3 game and 50 Euros for a Wii game.

Those numbers seem way too high for sold to consumer numbers. Sounds like another sold to stores number.

Considering the fact that they seem to have a conection with the MDTS and ASGD this seems likely.
