By the way...since Capcom shipped over 1m copies of the game already this is the first third party game on a Nintendo console in Japan to top 1m units since Dragon Quest III was remade for the SNES in December 1996.
After December 1996 there were no third party million-selling titles on Nintendo systems in Japan from January 1997 to July 2009...a period of 12 years and 7 months.

Not to mention, it will be the first 3rd party title to ship 1 million units this console generation across all platforms.

I didn't get to see the opening sales, but I was in Tokyo on the first and saw huge displays everwhere I went. There were also still a carp load of copies in stores, which I choose to view positively (as it means there's more to sell).
I'll probably be putting up my own pictures tomorrow.

yup. Bought 5. I'm using them as coasters.
Update, turns out that the department store in Akihabara that I went to was the site of the main launch, and had I been nerdy enough(and not with my girlfriend) I could have gotten up early to see the major lines, stage show (with Monster hunter celebs!) and general craziness.
Oh well...
