Forums - PC Discussion - Are Mac's really faster?

Because knowing how to build my own computer and save thousands of dollars in the process is a wondrous thing.

I suppose you'll claim it's a poor idea to learn how to change your own oil too when you can pay $30 bucks every 3 months to have someone else do it while waiting 2 hours reading Sports Illustrated and Motor Trend magazine in their lobby.

Or maybe you'll suggest that learning how to cook is a pathetic time waster when you can pay more money to have someone else buy the ingredients, prepare them, cook the foods and even serve you for a nominal fee of a $40 (less if you want a low quality product).

Perhaps you'll also agree that learning some carpentry and plumbing skills to fix your own home is idiotic when you can pay someone else thousands of dollars instead.

Brilliant really. Why bother with any form self reliant skill when you can just rely on others do it all instead? Am I suggesting that no one buy a quality computer, get their vehicle serviced, dine out or hire a contractor...absolutely not. But I am positing that their is nothing wrong at all with learning some self reliant skill that not only allow you to be more self sufficient but save thousands of dollars in the process.

But we've already stablished that if dollars are your goal, it's more efficient to buy a hassle-free computer and devote your time and effort into things that will actually have an impact on your income.

You are going round in circles there.

Maybe you should read some classics like Plato to improve on that instead of worrying about how to properly uninstall drivers so your new ones don't bug out.

No, we haven't established how a hassle free (no such thing exists) computer that costs $1,000 more than the one I built is more financially fruitful.

Please, do use that Plato derived knowledge of yours and show me how a $2,500 Mac Pro is going to provide me more money than my $1,300 self built PC.

But wait, let's not stop there. Because I don't plan to use the same computer for a decade. so considering I might get 2 completely new computers during that time, I'm looking at an investment of $7,000 for Mac's or $3,900 for my personally built PC's.

And on and on and on.

So again, how is buying a Mac Pro going to make me wealthier than building my own PC's?

It's been stablished since you didn't bother to make a counter-argument.

However since you ask, I've already posted why in a previous post of mine in this same thread, a post which you replied to. Which sort of leads to the conclusion that you don't bother reading what you are replying to, but that might as well derail the thread.

Maybe if you weren't busy fixing broken .DLL links you could have read and replied to such post in the past =/

Of course such post used "cost of opportunity" as a strong argument, something you might have learnt in the past weren't you concerned tweaking your antivirus software.

Oh they're faster... faster all the way to your bank!

They jacked up their profits on the Pro over 1.000$ this year...

The only post I quoted of yours relating to what you said was some nonsensical ideology that if you're learning about PCs then you are wasting time that could be put forth to learning more in your career field.  As though there is some barrier to doing both?  I can't increase my knoweldge of PC's AND increase my knowledge in career field?  They are somehow mutualy exclusive unless they overlap?  Are you saying I have to choose one or the other and by purchasing a Mac Pro I've reduced the options to simply increasing my career field knowledge and will then after 3.34 years will have eradicated the $1,000 premium?

"Considering an average 3-year lifespan for the computer and assuming a 1.000$ apple overprice, it comes off as 300$ per year. However increasing your knowledge on your actual field of work will yield more than 300$/year."

^That's what you said.   I can't see how you think there is some logic in your non-sequitur.

You know, I don't have broken .DLL's or bad drivers because I know what I'm doing.   I also don't need to update my antivirus software (which I don't even have any installed) because I know how to properly set up a good firewall and don't download anything I'm not certain of the content.   It also helps I use both Windows and Linux.  In fact, I dual boot and use virtualization so I'm using several different operating systems and never fear of viruses, worms, trojans or other malware.
