Forums - Nintendo Discussion - ASH: first DS game to hit 256 megs

And it took until the end of the N64's life just to fit any FMVs into a cart. Now the DS is already quadruple the size, with larger sizes likely coming (doubling that, a DS cart would be nearly as large as a CD-ROM). So the voice acting in FFIV looks to be pretty feasible.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I still don't understand why DS cart sizes are so small, considering I can buy a microSD card the size of my fingernail 2GB.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

the DS will soon have more storage than the Wii.

I don't think we had 2G microSD yet when DS debut.

I think the regular SD card can go up to 16G now. So, DS card can pass the DVD if neccessary.

SD cards don't include software develoment costs.

Those 2GB cards cost about $18 USD and a 256MB card (if you could find one) would cost $3? I think that's the reason. I've heard the DS cards could go up to 2GB but not bigger because of memory addressing issues but I'm not a tech wonk so I don't understand the technical details (SDHC compatibility issue?).

Cool that ASH is pushing the limits. I'm not a big fan of FMV on the DS but some good voice acting (if that  is possible) would be welcome. I really want to see how far they can take this console technically.

With just a sip of beer I could say this looks like a PS2 game.

Your beer must be very potent cuz I'm getting the vibe of a PS1 game, and that's stretching it... More along the lines of a N64 game.

That's interesting, considering N64 > PS1.

n64 had better graphics than the ps1 pushed out DmeisterJ.
