However, at its peak, The Simpsons was better than Family Guy ever was or ever will be. |
This.
Family Guy has it's moments but it has a terrible laugh to joke ratio. For every ten jokes on the newer Family Guy episodes, I laugh once, which creates the impression that the show isn't funny. Newer Simpsons have a similar problem, but with fewer overall jokes. So if it was just recently, Family Guy wins by a nose, but over the span of the series, Simpsons wins hands down.
The Simpsons used to use more subtle humour, but now they follow somewhat of a "Here's the joke" style. Everything is so in your face, and that's not how I like my comedy. It's okay to have a few outrageous moments, but when that's your whole show I may as well just surf Youtube. When jokes are subtle you can simply ignore the ones you don't find funny, but when they're so obvious it's impossible. The Simpsons has really been dumbed down for years now.
Pretty much every show people have mentioned in this thread are better than the current incarnation of The Simpsons or Family Guy.
"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
